The public hearing for a new reinvestment zone and amended tax abatement agreement with Young Wind LLC was postponed by the Young County Commissioners Court this week. The delay, at the request of Young Wind LLC, is to give the company more time to prepare a new application as more property owners have requested to take part in the proposed wind farm in Young County.

The second reinvestment zone is expected to cover the previous zone as well as newer properties that have since made agreements with Young Wind. Development manager Ben Semmes said at a June 10 public hearing within the two boundaries are 31 landowners with 30,128,22 verified acres of land with an assessed value of $2,218,153. It was during this meeting that a new zone was approved and a June 28 public hearing was set for new tax abatement and road use agreements.

“Issues have (...) risen that are going to change our reinvestment zone and be obligated to amend our abatement agreement,” Young County Judge John Bullock said during the June 28 Commissioners Court meeting. “Those documents are not ready yet. We’ll have to advertise that again for 30 days. The earliest that we would be able to hear that, because of the schedule we are on, will be the 26th of July.”
