It gives them friends, it builds community and allows them to be themselves as a group of high school special needs students and young adults. The Rock along with ‘The Rock Party’ builds a community.
Around a year ago, Kim Gibbons and her husband, Patrick, saw the need for a gathering of special needs students and young adults after watching their son try to find friends in Graham.
“I just wanted them to have a social structure because isolation can be really bad with the special needs community,” she said. “Especially once they graduate, this way they can kind of keep in touch with their friends.”
