The Rompin' Stompin' Big Blue Band of Graham High School competed at the UIL Region 7 Marching Contest in Early last Saturday. Following a great performance, the band earned Division One ratings from every judge and will move on to compete at the UIL Area B Marching Contest in Denton at 4:30 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 29. After having already performed in Early at the Heart of Texas Marching Festival on Saturday, Oct. 15, earning the Grand Champion title, the band was confident before performing at regionals. In addition to their confidence, the band used the week leading up to the regional competition to make improvements. "The band was very excited about their regional performance. The RSB3 put on their best performance to date," Band Director Josh Kidd said. "Each week the band has consistently improved and performed better. The students know this, and are excited to continue getting stronger as we continue our competitive season. Earning a Division One rating is equivalent to finishing the regular season with a winning record in athletics. Now the band has moved on to the ‘playoffs’ and wants to continue advancing.” The RSB3 is aware of the tough competition they will face at area. The band plans to perfect details of their routine, as well as to work on individual responsibilities, to give an outstanding performance. "UIL Area B is the home to some of the finest 4A bands in the state of Texas. The band has been focusing on individual accountability and striving for perfection in their performance," Kidd said. "In order to compete well, the band will have to be at the top of their game. Each band at the contest has earned the right to represent their community at the area contest, all with hopes of advancing to the UIL State Marching Contest." The UIL State Marching Contest will be held from Nov. 7-9 in San Antonio at the Alamodome.
