Young County Sheriff Bryan Walls will retire on Halloween, rather than at the end of his term on Jan. 1. The Young County Commissioners Court was given notice of the resignation, which is set to be effective Oct. 31. Due to their being no quorum present at the commissioners court meeting Tuesday, County Judge John Bullock said they could not discuss that item and could only state that the courthouse was aware of the resignation. Bullock and Commissioner Pct. 3 Stacey Rogers were the only members of the court present Tuesday. Bullock said that in a future meeting the court will discuss what happens in between Walls’ retirement and the end of his term. Walls took the oath of office on Jan. 1, 2005, replacing Sheriff Carey Pettus, who held the office for 15 years. Before becoming Young County Sheriff, Walls was employed by Graham PD, a job he left in April 2004. Walls was unavailable for comment at press time because he was attending a class, his office said.
