Smith indicted on criminally negligent homicide of infant
Following an Olney Police Department and Texas Rangers investigation, and a Young County Grand Jury indictment, Jasmine Alexis Kay Smith, 27, was arrested Wednesday for criminally negligent homicide of an 8-month-old infant.
Smith was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 22 in Jack County on a charge of criminally negligent homicide, according to a joint statement released late Wednesday from the Texas Department of Public Safety and Olney Police Department.
OPD responded Wednesday, March 29 to a call of an unresponsive 8-month-old infant, according to the release from DPS Sergeant Juan L. Gutierrez. OPD officers were suspicious of the circumstances and called the Texas Rangers to assist in the investigation.
“After several months of thorough investigation by the Texas Rangers and Olney Police Department, a Young County Grand Jury reviewed the details of the investigation. The Young County Grand Jury found probable cause to return an indictment on Smith for criminal negligent homicide,” Gutierrez said.
The Young County Sheriff’s Office received the indictment Monday, Nov. 20 and Smith was arrested on the warrant Wednesday, Nov. 22 in Jack County by the Jacksboro Police Department.
