David Spiller won the Texas House of Representatives District 68 seat after the uncertified totals were released Tuesday following the special runoff election. The HD68 election was unique due to the entirety of early voting being canceled due to severe winter weather conditions.

The election was between candidates David Spiller and Craig Carter, vying for the HD68 seat. Spiller will fill the seat vacated by Drew Springer, who won the Texas Senate District 30 position in December 2020. Springer was sworn into his Senate District 30 position Wednesday, Jan. 6, by Gov. Greg Abbott after first being elected to serve in the HD68 seat in 2012 and serving eight years in the position.

Early voting in the Texas House of Representatives District 68 special runoff election was canceled in Young County due to inclement winter weather which started Sunday, Feb. 14 and continued throughout the week. Early voting was scheduled to begin Tuesday, Feb. 16, in the 22 counties in the district.
