State begins to reopen driver license offices

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Thursday, May 21 the Texas Department of Public Safety will begin a phased opening of driver licenses offices starting May 26.

As driver license offices begin their phased reopening, services will be limited to customers with appointments only seeking a first-time Texas driver license, commercial driver license, learner license or identification card, and those who need to take a driving test. These will be the only services available at driver license offices during these initial phases of reopening.

Phase One begins with offices in DPS’ Northwest and West Texas regions. This includes Young, Stephens and Jack counties. Offices reopened with limited services on May 26. Customers were able to begin making appointments on May 22.

Phase Two continues with offices in DPS’ South and Central Texas regions  reopening with limited services beginning Friday, May 29. Customers were able to begin scheduling appointments in these two regions on May 26.
