State sales tax rebates remain uneven

The city of Graham’s sales tax rebate dropped 1.27 percent this month, compared with the same month last year. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $774.9 million in local sales tax allocations for November, 5 percent more than in November 2016. These allocations are based on sales made in September by businesses that report tax monthly, and sales made in July, August and September by quarterly filers. Sales tax rebates in Texas are slowly recovering from declines last year related to a downturn in the oil and gas industry.
