A hazmat team was called to the scene after a tanker truck carrying saltwater overturned on FM 1287 near Jarry Road around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The driver of the tanker was transported by ambulance to Graham Regional Medical Center and then by air ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth with a head injury.

“(The truck) was carrying saltwater, (which) you don’t need a hazmat placard for,” Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Patrick Cox said, “But, it is considered hazardous for the environment. Which is why the All American Towing and Recovery brought down a little hazmat team to help clean it up so it doesn’t get to the (Brazos) River.”

The overturned tanker also leaked some oil from the engine which TxDOT set sand over to absorb. Graham Police Department, Graham Fire Department, Newcastle Volunteer Fire Department and Young County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, as well.
