The Texas Education Agency released their annual Texas Academic Performance Report earlier this month providing data for Graham ISD’s State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) performance, graduation rates and other data.

The STAAR has four levels of performance which are measured highest to lowest by Masters Grade Level, Meets Grade Level, Approaches Grade Level and Did Not Meet Grade Level, which is the only level which is not passing.

The district saw unsubstantial gains in the All Grades, All Subjects category in some levels from the previous year and some levels lowering. The At Approaches Grade Level decreased by a measure of 1% from 74% to 73%, while the At Meets Grade Level or Above and At Masters Grade Level increased by a measure of 1%, from 42% to 43% and from 17% to 18%.

GISD is a part of Region 9 which contains the counties of Hardeman, Foard, Knox, Wilbarger, Baylor, Throckmorton, Wichita, Archer, Young, Clay, Jack and Montague. The STAAR performance percentages for GISD compared to Region 9 are 2% lower in the At Approaches Grade Level or above at 75% (or 78% statewide), 1% lower in At Meets Grade Level or Above at 44% (or 50% statewide) and 1% lower At Masters Grade Level at 19% (or 24% statewide).

In individual subjects in the All Grades ELA/Reading, GISD saw some gains and losses in the three measured levels of performance. The district improved from 15% to 17% at the At Masters Grade Level (meeting the Region 9 average), improved from 41% to 42% in At Meets Grade Level or Above (below the Region 9 average of 44%) and lowered from 72% to 69% At Approaches Grade Level or Above (below the Region 9 average of 72%).

In individual subjects in the All Grades Mathematics, GISD saw gains and losses in the three measured levels of performance. The district improved from 18% to 19% at the At Masters Grade Level (below the Region 9 average of 21%), lowered from 44% to 43% in At Meets Grade Level or Above (below the Region 9 average of 45%) and lowered from 80% to 77% At Approaches Grade Level or Above (below the Region 9 average of 77%).
