Texas Medical Board disciplines Olney physician
The Texas Medical Board disciplined 80 physicians during their June meeting including Olney Hamilton Hospital’s Chief of Staff, Doctor Mark Mankins.
“The Board found Dr. Mankins failed to meet the standard of care with respect to a chronic pain patient who returned from rehab,” a press release states. “Mankins should have modified his treatment or referred the patient based upon information that the patient had been through detox.”
The release continues, on June 14 the board and Mankins entered into an agreed order requiring the doctor to complete 16 hours of continued medical education within a year. The 16 hours will be divided with eight hours in risk management and eight hours in patient drug-seeking.
TMB’s Communications Manager Megan Goode said continuing medical education courses are offered by several professional associations such as the Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association and other nationally and state recognized associations.
