Two local businesses combine, bond through joined location

Almost three weeks ago two local restaurants were joined through a bond of friendship, a love of the Lord and through the will to keep a local business in Graham.

As the owners of Down Home Bakehouse in Graham were ready to step away from their business, the owners of Mogurt came to them with an opportunity to combine the businesses into one location.

Co-Owner and Manager of Down Home Bakehouse, Lynsey Browning, said with the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recovering economy, being able to retain employees and her child being expected in September, the restaurant was struggling to find replacements.

“With me being out we have not been able to find people to come fill our shoes so that we can step out of the store because I am the main cook now so if I stepped out of that position it would be very hard on the rest of the team that I leave here. I am not going to do that to them for three months and so our lease was coming to an end and so we decided they are only babies once and I wanted to be home and not have the stress of being here and with the cafe side as well,” Browning said. “My original dream was to always just have a coffeehouse and a bakery and a gathering spot. A place where people feel good to come in and want to hang out and I always wanted to create that, but with this giant building we renovated for three months, we had to put on breakfast and lunch. We kept it simple, but it’s still a lot more work and Graham has loved the breakfast and lunch aspect of that and really hung onto that and so that has expanded more than we thought it would.”
