TxDOT adopts Unified Transportation Program
The Texas Department of Transportation announced last Tuesday the adoption of the 2023 Unified Transportation Program, an $85 billion, 10-year statewide construction plan. The adopted program includes road projects in the TxDOT Wichita Falls District, which includes Young County.
According to a release from TxDOT the UTP funds will coincide with $23 billion in additional funding for routine maintenance contracts and project development, such as planning, professional engineering and right-of-way acquisition for over 7,000 transportation projects statewide. The Wichita Falls District, encompassing Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cooke, Montague, Throckmorton, Wichita, Wilbarger and Young counties, will receive $1.1 billion to use on projects over the next 10 years.
“The UTP is a planning document that authorizes highway projects for development and construction. Additionally, the UTP identifies public transportation, maritime, aviation, and rail investments,” TxDOT stated in a release. “Projects are selected by TxDOT and local transportation leaders based on effectiveness in addressing criteria such as safety, pavement condition, capacity, and rural connectivity, with opportunities for public input at both the state and local levels.”
Young County
The project in Young County with the adopted plan will be the addition of passing lanes on S Hwy. 79 to 0.8 miles west of FM 1769, with the estimated date of FY 2023-2026 for the project at an estimated construction cost of $10,582,001.
