Unofficial election results released

Voting concluded Saturday with unofficial election results released for local contested elections for the city of Graham, Graham ISD and Newcastle ISD.

Early voting in the election ran from Tuesday, April 22 through Friday, April 25 and from April 28-29. Election day voting was held Saturday, May 3 at the Young County Annex in Graham and First Baptist Church in Newcastle.

The Graham City Council had two seats up for election in May which were held by Jack Little and Brant Lundgren.

Lundgren did not file for reelection for his Place 4 seat, with Brendan Weatherman being the sole filer for the position. 

Little retained his seat with 81.56% of the vote over new candidate Chris Hatfield.

The Graham ISD Board of Trustees has three positions up for election in May which were held by Lauren Mahaney, Chris Blanton and Jason Smith.

Blanton and Smith were the sole filers for their Place 4 and Place 5 positions, respectively. Mahaney retained her seat with 53.52% of the vote over new candidate Ellen Morris.

Newcastle ISD had two board members who were up for election in May which were Sam Creel and Dancey Creel.

Sam Creel retained his seat over new candidates Pecos Bohannan and Robert Dotson.

Dancey Creel also ran again for her Place 5 seat, and was joined by new candidates Tara Bickham and Nicholas Whitaker. Creel came out on top with 48.31% of the vote.

According to Newcastle ISD board policy "To be elected, a candidate must receive more votes than any other candidate for the position." The Place 5 race, which had Creel and Bickham within 13 votes, will not have a runoff election, according to board policy.

The NISD Place 7 position on the board was also vacant and three candidates filed to run for that seat. 

Those candidates were Carla Short, Chevy Humphrey and Anneta Buenger. Buenger came out on top with 55.7% of the vote.
