Voter registration deadline upcoming for General Election

The last day to register to vote in the upcoming November General Election is a little over two weeks away throughout the state. On the ballot will be federal, state and local races, including races for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General and Young County Judge.

The last day to register to vote in the Tuesday, Nov. 8 General Election will be Tuesday, Oct. 11. Registration for new voters can be completed at the Young County Election office located at the Young County Courthouse or online when obtaining, replacing or updating a Texas Drivers License or Texas ID card. Updates to voter registration record information can be completed at texas.gov.

In Texas, voters are eligible if they are a United States citizen, a resident of the county where they submitted their voter registration application, at least 18-years-old on Election Day, not a convicted felon and not been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote. A convicted felon may be eligible to vote if they have completed their sentence, probation and parole.

Early voting in the General Election will begin Monday, Oct. 24 and run through Friday, Nov. 4. The first day to apply for a ballot by mail using an Application for a Ballot by Mail or Federal Post Card Application was Saturday, Jan. 1. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail received, not postmarked, will be Friday, Oct. 28. The last day the election office can receive ballots by mail is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, if the carrier envelope is not postmarked, or 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, if postmarked by 7 p.m. at the location of the election on Election Day.
