Voting totals low for first week of amendment election

As Young County heads into its second week of early voting, turnout has remained low county-wide.

Young County is hosting early voting for the Constitutional Amendment Election this week at two locations. A total of 25 voters had voted early in the election on the first day of early voting last week, according to Young County Elections Administrator Lauren Sullivan.

Last week remained low with a total of 188 voters, or around 1% of the 11,646 registered voters in the county, voting early as of Monday morning, according to Sullivan. The county also had 300 ballot by mail submissions, according to the elections administrator.

Young County has no local elections on the ballot, but has the 10 ballot measures approved in the 86th Legislative Session.

The last day to register to vote was Monday, Oct. 7. Early voting runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, through Friday, Nov. 1. The early voting locations are Olney Community Library, 807 W. Hamilton St. and North Central Texas College, 928 Cherry St.

The last day to apply for ballot by mail, received not postmarked, was Friday, Oct. 25, and the last day to receive ballot by mail is Tuesday, Nov. 5, by 7 p.m.

Election day will have voting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 at five locations. The voting locations on election day will be Olney Community Library, 807 W. Hamilton St., North Central Texas College, 928 Cherry St, Newcastle City Hall, 608 Broadway Ave., Loving Fire Department and Graham First United Methodist Church, 700 Third St.
