Texas A&M AgriLife will challenge Young County citizens to walk the length of the Panhandle State over eight weeks starting on March 25.

The Walk Across Texas program was created to help increase awareness and physical activity through a team goal of walking 832 miles over eight weeks.

“It takes about eight weeks to create a habit,” Young County AgriLife Extension Agent Penny Berend said. “The goal is by the end of the eight weeks, those who were already walking will continue and those who were not will get more involved and walk more often than they were before the program.”

A individual does not have to walk to gain mileage for the day, as 20 minutes of any other form of physical activity will count as a mile.
