The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank Produce Express truck will be moving to the Young County Arena and will continue providing free food to the community each month.
The service was originally located at Eastside Church of Christ, but will be moving Tuesday, Dec. 10 to a new permanent location at the Young County Arena located at 120 Barclay Blvd.
“Due to the overwhelming amount of traffic on Indiana (Street) on pickup day, the decision was made to ensure community safety. Please follow the signs for parking at the YCA. We look forward to serving our community alongside WFAFB,” Graham Crisis Center Director Joy Petersen said. “A big thanks to the Graham Evening Lions Club for volunteering their time to make this opportunity a success.”
WFAFB Produce Express program is a mobile distribution of food that can be picked up directly from the truck, which will be parked from 1-3 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the arena.
Those who need to utilize the service can enter off of Hwy. 380, park in the arena parking lot, check in, get a ticket and wait for their number to be called.
Petersen said in November that the demand for clients at the food pantry in Graham had risen substantially. In October, the organization served 486 households and 1,450 individuals.
The food pantry is located at 601 Indiana St. and is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m.
The food pantry serves from 40-80 individuals on the days of service, with the second Tuesday being the busiest day of the month.
Approximately 3,500 pounds of food is given out per week from the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank and combined with 300 pounds from local donors.
