Two wildfires started over the weekend at Possum Kingdom Lake with firefighters working to contain the fires as of Monday afternoon. The fires in total covered 79 acres of land, but were not in close proximity.

The Set Ranch fire, which covered 19 acres, was 100% contained as of 3 p.m. Monday and was located south of PK Lake. The fire started at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 and as of Monday afternoon was burning in grass and brush with firefighters working to mop up the rest of the wildfire, according to Texas A&M Forest Service.

The fire was active throughout the day and into the evening Sunday and was tied in with a rock bluff on the north end, with crews securing the active edges. The cause of the fire was due to lightning.
