Young County agencies report massive data loss

Several governmental agencies within the Young County Courthouse found themselves without much of their computer files last week. The 90th Judicial District Attorney Dee Peavy updated the Commissioners Court on the severity of the situation during Monday’s meeting.

The county and governmental entities within the courthouse use NET Data, a county government software company based out of Sulphur Springs. Last week the company suffered what it considered a “catastrophic situation.”

“We’ve had this issue with NET Data,” Peavy said. “They’ve had what they call a ‘catastrophic situation,’ they’re calling it catastrophic and certainly we don’t have all of our documents recovered and this is a county-wide problem, not just our office.”

Young County has an agreement with the Sulphur Springs Police Department and Franklin County, for access to a secure location for redundancy. The county voted to approve that agreement on Aug. 2. Other agencies within the courthouse, including the district court, district clerk and district attorney’s office do not have data stored in that location.
