Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s recommendation, Savanna Williams, was unanimously approved as Young County’s next agriculture and natural resources extension agent by the commissioners court during their meeting on Monday, Sept. 9.

Williams is a past resident of Nocona, in Montague County, where she was a 4-H member. She attended Carleton College and Tarleton State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. While in college, she was a member of their livestock judging teams.

“After graduation, she was employed by a commercial swine operation in Canada,” Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Rolling Plains District Extension Administration Dale Dunlap said. “Then she moved back to Wisconsin, at a later date, to be a manager at a show pig operation there. Since January, she has been an assistant county extension agent in Glasscock County.”

Dunlap then asked the commissioners to approve Williams as the county’s next extension agent.

“I think everyone here has had the opportunity to visit with Savanna,” Precinct 1 Commissioner Mike Sipes said. “I think (Dunlap) has made a good choice. So, I would move that we name miss Williams as our new county extension agent.”

The county will pay a portion of Williams’ salary, $15,349, as well as reimbursement for travel expenses.

Williams will have large shoes to fill as she will be replacing Justin Rogers who left his position on Aug. 4 to pursue a career as an insurance agent and in agriculture consulting in Kerrville.

Williams start date is slated for Monday, Oct. 7.
