Four organizations are partnering on an event to help those looking for job opportunities.

A job fair is being held in partnership between Graham Economic Improvement Corporation, Workforce Solutions-North Texas, Texas Veteran Commission and North Central Texas College. The event will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Young County Arena.

Graham Economic Development’s Executive Director, Joe Beruta explained that there are many goals besides just getting the unemployed person a job that can be accomplished at this job fair.

“When you think about a job fair., most people think it’s for the unemployed,” said Beruta. “It is actually also for those that want to increase their pay or wages, getting a new opportunity. It’s accessing healthcare benefits, if they currently don’t have them. The job fair can be about new skills or improving skills.”

Beruta said that they have partnered with NCTC to allow the community to see how they can gain or improve skills. He also explained that some of the employers that will be there, offer on the job training.

“So if they (job seeker) want more depth of skill, they can get it potentially with a different employer or with different employment opportunities in the area.”

The GEIC is trying to keep this job fair convention to those that are seeking jobs or looking for new opportunities.

“We are going to have a variety of different industries at the job fair; manufacturing, healthcare, consumer services, retail, hospitality, non-profits, education and then industrial,” said Beruta. “Thus far to date we have about 35 employers already registered and committed to the event.”

With these employers there are a couple that are coming from outside of Young County, like Breckenridge and Jacksboro, according to Beruta.

“There are one or two that are coming from outside (the county), because they are interested in access to the employment community that we have here.”

In order to best serve the community, Beruta said they have partnered with Workforce Solutions-North Texas.

“They do these events all over North Texas, and all over the state. So they are bringing a lot of expertise to the table,” said Beruta.
