A Young County jury found John Michael McBride, 48, guilty of sexual assault of a child and sentenced him to 15 years in state prison after a three-day trial that ended Nov. 9. The trial was held in the 90th Judicial District Court with Judge Stephen E. Bristow presiding. McBride was represented at trial by Mineral Wells attorney, Cora Moore. The state was represented by the 90th Judicial District Attorney for Young and Stephens counties, Dee Peavy, and Assistant District Attorney Phillip Gregory. His sentence was only 5 years less than the maximum punishment allowable under the law, Peavy noted, adding that he could have received probation. McBride will have to serve half of his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole. For the rest of this story, subscribe to our print or online edition.
