The budgeting season for the Young County Commissioners Court is approaching in June with commissioners approving the schedule for the upcoming planning process.
The commissioners court released key workshop dates with various departments in the county for the remainder of the fiscal year.
The list of dates for budget discussions was released by the court in the agenda of their latest public meeting Monday, May 12.
This budgeting workshop schedule spans the entirety of the summer season from June to September.
The first phase of the schedule kicks off during the Monday meetings throughout the month of June stretching from June 2-23. The commissioners court will hold a budget workshop with the 911 coordinator to discuss addressing and mapping.
Following this the commissioners court will meet with the tax assessor/collector, and the district attorney. On Monday, June 16, there will be a budget workshop with the District Clerk, District Judge, County Attorney, the Texas A&M Extension office and Home Economics Office.
The final budget workshop of the month will take place on Monday, June 23, where there will be a vote to publicize any salary increases for elected officials in the county.
The headline meeting for the month of July for budgeting workshops comes on the commissioners court regular meeting July 28. A vote will take place at that meeting to set the salaries and other allowances for all elected county officers.
Elected officials will also be notified by County Judge Win Graham of their salaries and allowances after the meeting ends.
Budget workshop meetings will also be held on Monday, July 7, Monday, July 14 and Monday, July 21 in regards to juvenile probation, the county clerk, Fort Belknap, the historical commission, elections, the county treasurer, the veterans service office and the Young County Sheriff’s Office.
The budget discussions will continue Monday, Aug. 4 where discussion and proposal of a county tax rate will be addressed. If the proposed tax rate is higher than the no new revenue tax rate or voter approval tax rate then a public hearing will be scheduled to discuss the matter further.
A regular county commissioners court meeting will take place later in the month Monday, Aug. 25 to set the tax rate and officially adopt the budget.
There will also be two additional budget workshop meeting Monday, Aug. 11 and Monday, Aug. 18 leading up to the end of the month.
Additional commissioners court budget workshop meetings also appear on the schedule for the month of September only if they are necessary.
