The first week of early voting for the March 3 Primary Election has concluded and according to the Young County elections administrator the turnout has been good, but there is still time to vote.

Young County Elections Administrator, Lauren Sullivan, said the county has seen good numbers of early voters so far.

“So far everything has gone really well, we have had a pretty good turnout. We had 194, and about 166 yesterday (early voters),” Sullivan said. “So today (Thursday) we have been trucking right along, we have been pretty steady, not necessarily overwhelmed yet.”

With 11,631 registered voters in Young County, there are still thousands who can vote for the March 3 Primary Elections. Sullivan said she is projecting 35% to 40% turnout for this election, with half of those from early voting.

“We encourage people to come out during early voting to help with standing around in line,” she said. “We have a variety of ways that we try to keep lines down, but there is going to be a line on election day at our various polling locations.”

With this being a primary election, Sullivan said that the turnout is not as good.

“Primaries are not usually as involved as some others because folks want to make sure they understand how primaries work,” Sullivan said. “In the state of Texas you declare at the polling site what your party preference is, and you get that ballot. It is completely different than the other parties.”
