Community mourns the loss of Fire Chief Jerry David

Civic leaders, first responders, family and acquaintances of Jerry Lee David gathered Friday to remember his contributions both as fire chief of Graham Fire Rescue and as a person who upheld the values of his faith.

David was born in Benkelman, Nebraska, and started his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Tipton, Oklahoma fire department out of high school, according to GFD firefighter Pedro Ramirez who spoke at the memorial service.

DSHS adds school district reported COVID-19 cases to public website

In collaboration with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) last week posted on the DSHS website the statewide number of cases of COVID-19 reported by Texas public schools. The reported count of on-campus student cases of COVID-19 in the state’s public schools is 2,344 out of an estimated 1.1 million students who have been on campus for instruction or activities since the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. The total count of on-campus staff cases during the same period is 2,175.

Arrest made in fatal shooting at Executive Inn

Less than a week after the death of 19-year-old Klowie Moore, her fiancé, Gage Gillentine, has been arrested and charged with murder. 

Gillentine, 18, was arrested Thursday evening around 6 p.m. according to the Young County Blotter. He was brought to the Young County Jail where he is charged with the murder of Moore.

According to a press release from the Graham Police Department, Gillentine was staying at the Executive Inn, located at 1919 Hwy. 16. A representative with the Executive Inn said the two checked into the hotel on Aug. 16.

Graham Crisis Center updates Commissioners Court

Renovations continue at the Graham Area Crisis Center. Work is currently being done to modernize its current home, while a new search has begun for a new home for the center.

Board members Jack Little and Cathy Partridge spoke to the Young County Commissioners Court on Monday with Little giving an update on renovations taking place in their current location at the old county jail located within the downtown square. The county has recently assisted in funding for a roof replacement as well as other repairs in the facility.

GPD, Texas Rangers investigating fatal shooting at Executive Inn Friday

Graham Police Department and the Texas Rangers are investigating a shooting which occurred Friday at the Executive Inn in Graham that resulted in the death of a Graham woman.

On Friday, Sept. 11, at around 7 p.m. Graham Police Department officers were dispatched to the Executive Inn located at 1919 Hwy. 16 S. According to GPD Chief Brent Bullock this was in reference to a female gunshot victim. Bullock wrote in a release that officers arrived and found Klowie Moore, 19, of Graham, being treated by Graham EMS.
