The Graham ISD school board Tuesday morning approved amending the 2020-2021 school calendar moving the start date for the school year across the district to Aug. 31. The measure is being taken for district staff to get better prepared for what could be a unique year with COVID-19 precautions from the Texas Education Agency.
The Graham Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle wreck which occurred Wednesday afternoon at the Young County Machine Inc. building.
Graham Regional Medical Center is hosting a blood drive with Carter BloodCare next Thursday with those donating blood having the opportunity to get a COVID-19 antibody test for a limited time.
The drive will be held on a Carter BloodCare bus Thursday, July 30, at 1301 Montgomery Road in the parking lot of GRMC. Carter BloodCare is offering coronavirus antibody testing on successful blood donations for those that establish an account on their website.
A two-vehicle wreck with injuries occurred on the intersection of Third and Elm St. Tuesday evening after one vehicle ran a red light.
Officers of the Graham Police Department responded at 6:28 p.m. on Tuesday to the wreck at the intersection and made contact with the driver and occupants of both vehicles. Occupants of both vehicles received injuries in the crash and were attended to by Graham/Young County EMS and Graham Fire Department.
The city of Graham hosted their second budget meeting Tuesday, lowering the negative general fund value by $200,000 and approving capital requests from various departments for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.
Young Central Appraisal District hosted an informational meeting on Friday with the goal of addressing issues regarding increases in appraisals both at Lake Graham and within the city of Graham. The meeting, in the Graham Junior High School new gym, drew a large attendance from community members and area leaders.
The city of Graham hired consulting engineering and architectural groups Jacob & Martin and Halff Associates to propose estimates for projects to help with water pressure at Timber Ridge and Spivey Hill and for a larger water replacement project for water lines around the city. Jacob & Martin worked on estimates for the pressure systems while Halff Associates worked on the estimates for water line replacement.
Habitat for Humanity of Graham is in the process of providing their sixteenth home since the local program began in 2006. This year, the home on Willow St. is benefiting the Anderson family, which includes Cinthia Anderson and her five children.
Graham ISD’s District Improvement Team started work last week to create a plan to begin school with students and staff on campus for the 2020-2021 school year. Districts across the country have been tasked with finding safe ways to start school with in-person sessions while also working to slow the spread of COVID-19.
This week marks the final week of the federal $600 unemployment benefits from the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program and the CARES Act. Based on the Texas Workforce Commission’s contract with the US Department of Labor, FPUC is available for the week ending April 04, 2020, through the week ending July 25, 2020.
TWC was responsible for overseeing payments. Only Congress can extend or make changes. The July 25 deadline was set by federal law and is out of the jurisdiction of TWC.
