Young County continues to track local antibody COVID-19 tests

One of the ways that Young County is tracking the spread of COVID-19 is through antibody testing, and the results that have come back are surprising.

Young County Local Health Authority, Dr. Pat Martin explained that the county has been performing IgG antibody tests for a while now and with more than 300 tests administered, as of Monday, June 15, he is somewhat surprised by the results.

YCSO, GPD talk Friday gathering at Young County courthouse

Young County Sheriff Travis Babcock and Graham Police Chief Brent Bullock spoke to the Rotary Club of Graham on Tuesday about a gathering of veterans and concerned citizens on the Graham downtown square last Friday in response to potential protesters.

A grouping of both armed and unarmed visitors to the square were present Friday around the courthouse along with members of the Young County Sheriff’s Office and Graham Police Department. Sheriff Babcock spoke to the club on Tuesday and said the events were due to intelligence regarding a potential protest.

Young County continues push to fill out 2020 Census packets

Graham, Young County and state leaders are continuing to remind residents to fill out their 2020 Census form, as Graham has 61.6% self-response rate and Young County is sitting at a 54.1% self-response as of Tuesday, June 16.

The census is something that the United States does every ten years to help count every person in every state and territory. This data is used to help states and federal governments reallocate funding and reapportion districts.

Young County Veterans Memorial to add five new names, five changes

Five new names will be added and five name changes will be complete to the two different Veterans Memorial walls.

The Young County New Century Veterans Memorial will be added to beginning Tuesday, June 23 and unveiled on July 4. The NCVM Board has released the names that will be added to the wall or amended.

On the Post January 2001 potion of the wall Lance Eric Martin and Antonio Ramirez III will be added. 

On the Pre-January 2001 and pourover from the prior wall will be Robert Eugene Brown, Jerry Thomas Jackson and Charles Franklin Bramlet.

GHS alumni receives GSA Graduate Student Research Grant

Coming from a small town in Texas, Lisabeth “Nicky” Arellano had a passion and followed it all the way to the University of Houston where she was awarded a graduate student research grant that will assist her in her climate research in Panama.

Arellano, a 2011 graduate of Graham High School and first year PhD student at the University of Houston, is pursuing geology and showing that anyone can find a passion and follow it. After graduating from GHS, she attended Baylor University before going to Oregon State to get her masters.

Young County sees increased COVID-19 cases, testing to continue

Editor’s Note: Two more COVID-19 cases were confirmed as of Monday night. One of the cases from Palo Pinto County and the other was from Young County.

Young County has seen a spike in positive cases for COVID-19 over the last few weeks with six to eight active cases and 21 overall positive cases, according to Young County Local Health Authority, Dr. Pat Martin.

Martin confirmed Monday that Young County has 16 active cases. The five remaining active cases were tested locally, but reside outside the county.

One hospitalized after police incident in Graham

Graham Police Department and the Texas Rangers will be conducting an investigation after a subject in police custody was found unresponsive in the back of a police vehicle late Wednesday, June 3, according to a GPD release.

GPD Chief Brent Bullock stated in a press release that police officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Remington Street in Graham Wednesday night in reference to a domestic disturbance.
