Food Truck Championship of Texas canceled for 2020

Out of safety for the community, the Graham Convention and Visitors Bureau and Food Truck Championship of Texas board has decided to cancel the 2020 Food Truck Championship of Texas.

As the food truck championship was quickly approaching, the board met and made the decision to cancel the event for this year as the country and state are still fighting the novel coronavirus.

Area leaders provide local update on reopening, moving forward

County leaders met Friday to update the community on developments with COVID-19 and to address local questions regarding local and state initiatives. Information was shared regarding the reopening of businesses within the community and how the city and county will be following the governor’s directives as their local orders expire.

Young County sees low turnout for National Guard COVID-19 testing

Young County Arena was site to a COVID-19 mobile testing site hosted by the Texas National Guard on April 29, Young County had only 7 tests given with 60 available spots.

Young County was selected as a mobile testing site for April 29, where community members were able to receive a free COVID-19 test by appointment.

According to Young County Local Health Authority, Dr. Pat Martin, there were seven tests administered and he is unsure if the National Guard will come back at a later date.

Going beyond the classroom walls: Teacher receives surprise birthday parade from students

In a time of distance learning and social distancing, teachers and students across Graham ISD are finding new ways to connect, but for one third grade teacher from Crestview, a birthday surprise came in an unexpected way.

On April 27, Breann Spivey celebrated her birthday with her family. Little did she know one of her third grade students planned a birthday parade, involving the whole class.

GHS seniors to bring color and life with Paint the Park project

The Graham High School Class of 2020 will have a unique opportunity to leave their artistic talents on Graham as the Graham Public Art Committee (GPAC) presents Paint the Park, allowing seniors to enter to paint the 11 Shawnee Park picnic tables.

Grant Ingram, Manager of the Graham Convention and Visitors Bureau, said GPAC wanted to allow the seniors to showcase themselves and their talents.

GRMC resumes specific elective procedures

After canceling all elective procedures due to COVID-19, Graham Regional Medical Center announced Friday that they have resumed non-emergent, clinically necessary elective procedures and surgeries beginning on Monday, April 27.

GRMC CEO, Shane Kernell, in a press release stated the hospital has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and has decided to open facilities for non-emergency, non-COVID-19 healthcare.

As the hospital begins to reopen certain services, GRMC will still be working closely with health officials, ensuring the community is safe.
