LCS: PK Women’s Club to hold pancake breakfast

With ‘Mardi Gras at PK Style’ happening this weekend, the Possum Kingdom Women’s Club could not miss out on the action, as they host their Mardi Gras Pancake Breakfast.

The public breakfast is an all-you-can-eat style to raise funds for the PK Women’s Club.

According to Jo Lynn Miller, the club’s publicity chair, the breakfast will run from 7 to 11 a.m. on March 7 at the Charlie’s Angels building.

LCS: Mardi Gras PK Style

It is the kick off to summer for the Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce as they host their 23rd annual Mardi Gras PK Style parade and shrimp fest.

Mardi Gras at the lake will occur on March 7 and feature a parade and shrimp fest for the community to enjoy.

According to Pam Wheat, the PK Chamber Director, the Mardi Gras PK Style began 23 years ago when the McCracken family, specifically Jannet McCracken, became one of the founding members of the PK Chamber of Commerce and began the Mari Gras festivities.

County sees increased early voting turnout, prepares for election day

Young County wrapped up early voting Friday, Feb. 28 which saw a record number of voters come out, but the county still wants the community to be prepared for election day.

After nearly one week of early voting last week, Lauren Sullivan, the Young County Elections Administrator, said around 400 votes had been cast. As of Thursday morning, Sullivan stated that 1,253 voters have voted out of 11,631 registered voters.

City of Graham to repair main water line after leak

Editor's Note: On Friday, Feb. 28, City Manager Brandon Anderson released an updated public notice stating the city is working on finding a storage system to allow Spivey Hill residents to have water during the repair. The details will be announced during the next city council meeting on Thursday, March 5.

The city of Graham is scheduling repairs for their main water line into the city for March 9 in an effort to stop a leak to the line on Hwy. 16. As a part of the process, the city is asking residents to conserve water use.

Graham DECA students win at State contest

Graham had 13 members of the Graham High School Chapter of DECA compete at the State Career Development Conference, with one team qualifying to compete at International Career Development Conference.

Thirteen members of the Graham High School Chapter of DECA traveled to Fort Worth on Feb. 20 to compete at State, with Aimee McShan and Cooper Gordy qualifying to compete at the international level in Nashville, Tenn.

PUC makes determination on wholesale water dispute

The Public Utility Commission of Texas made a decision Thursday in the dispute between the city of Graham’s wholesale water customers and the city related to an appeal filed in October 2017. The commissioners made a decision based on a memo filed by Chairman DeAnn Walker Wednesday, in which she agreed with the administrative law judges opinion in favor of the city.

Friends of the Library Book Sale raises funds for library programs

It was one of the most productive book sales from Friends of the Library ever. The more than $2,000 raised will be given back to the Library of Graham to support various programs at the library.

The Friends of the Library Book Sale kicked off on Feb. 15 and remained open through Feb. 21 to allow those that could not make it on Saturday to shop.

Sherrie Gibson, Library of Graham Director, said this is the best sale they have ever had.

The future is education

With the pursuit of higher education comes the cost and financial strain of going to college, but North Central Texas College’s Graham Campus is allowing for students to go after their dreams through scholarships and financial aid.

NCTC’s Foundation Board conducts a big fundraiser every year, and accepts donations and scholarships, to give students the opportunity to pursue their high education dreams.

NCTC recognizes Graham organizations, individuals

The Graham Chamber of Commerce and Conventions and Visitors Bureau and were presented an award by the local North Central Texas College campus during the NCTC Foundation’s annual Starlite Gala last Friday.

The gala, on Friday, Feb 21, was held at Texas Motor Speedway and hosted 500 guests.

The gala honors both individuals and organizations which have given resources to expand NCTC in their local communities.
