GPD arrests two after Nov. 7 chase

Rikki Ryanna Roman and Kevin Michael Hogue are in the Young County Jail after the pair led the Graham Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies on a vehicle and foot chase Thursday, Nov. 7.

Around 3:20 p.m. GPD K-9 Sergeant Austin Lawrence was dispatched to a suspicious noise complaint in the 700 block of Indiana St., according to a GPD press release. The sergeant drove down the alley between Indiana and Texas Street and observed a red SUV parked blocking the alley.

GRMC accepts offer for home health and hospice department

The Graham Regional Medical Center Board of Directors agreed to an offer, Monday, Nov. 11, for the purchase of its home health and hospice department which it placed for sale Thursday, Sept. 5. The board also voted to enter into final negations regarding the department.

The board of directors met in a special called meeting at 9 a.m. Monday where they immediately entered into an executive session regarding the deliberation of purchase, exchange, lease or value of real property.

CVB, OPOMAC host Pigskin Weekend

The Graham Conventions and Visitors Bureau is partnering with the Old Post Office Museum and Art Center for the inaugural Pigskin Weekend event Saturday with up to $6,000 in prizes.

The event opens at 10 a.m. and will have tailgating, live music, college football, a pig roast and a cornhole tournament hosted by the Texas Cornhole League at the empty lot behind the OPOMAC. CVB Manager Grant Ingram said the event was created from an idea by members of the OPOMAC and to fill a spot for an event this season.

Positive sales tax trend continues for Graham, some area cities

Young County and the cities of Graham and Olney will be receiving higher sales tax allocations from September with higher year-to-date payments overall.

Since the beginning of 2018, the city of Graham has seen increases which exceeded their year-to date budget, starting with 0.49% increase in January 2018 and continuing with a 14.21% increase in September 2019.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $849.6 million in local sales tax allocations in November, 4% more than in November 2018.

LCS: Palo Pinto County sees large turnout numbers for election day voting

Palo Pinto county saw an election day turnout with over 2,400 voters hitting the polls on election day during the Nov. 5 Constitutional Amendment Election.

A a portion of Palo Pinto County residents had a Graford ISD bond election to vote on. The entire county had opportunity to voice their opinions on the 10 ballot measures approved in the 86th Legislative Session.

LCS: Graford ISD bond proposal fails

Graford ISD’s $49.6 million bond proposal to construct a new campus failed by a two to one vote during the Nov. 5 Constitutional Amendment Election.

The district encompasses around 300 square miles which includes Graford, a small portion of Jack County and the majority of Possum Kingdom Lake.

In Palo Pinto County,  201 voted for the bond and 407 voted against. While in Jack County, four voted for and seven voted against bringing the total vote to 205, or 33.1% for, and 414, or 66.9%, voting against.
