County, Humane Society continue talks about quarantined animals

The Humane Society of Young County and the County Commissioners Court continued discussions about the addition of a clause for quarantined animals to their contract during the commissioners meeting Monday, Sept. 23.

The commissioners and humane society had a discussion regarding animal control and quarantined animals during an Aug. 26 meeting which reached no solution. This issue became a pressing matter after the sheriff’s department recently could find no available veterinarian in the county for quarantine observation after a dog bite case.

Designing a future

Jazzton Miller and Carlos Fuentes did not know each other a couple of years ago, now they are getting a fashion brand off the ground in Graham with new items dropping Tuesday, Oct. 1.

“I met Jazzton in High School, he was homeschooled from sixth to eight grade,” Fuentes said. “Our first period was band, at that moment I was a junior and he was a freshmen.”

Fuentes, 19, said one of the first things he noticed about Miller,17, was his style and how different it was.

Evening Lions bringing circus to town

The Graham Evening Lions Club will help bring the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus to town  at the Girls Softball Field Parking Lot near Young County Arena on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Culpepper & Merriweather is in its 34th edition and has been featured throughout many media. The circus will have two scheduled performances at 2 and 4:30 p.m. with each performance being 90 minutes long.

GPD presents officers, citizen with Award of Valor

The city of Graham and Graham Police Department recognized officers within their department and a citizen of Graham last Thursday for their service during a shooting incident on Friday, Sept. 6.

GPD was dispatched to the 1400 block of Avenue D in the afternoon of Sept. 6 in response to a person who had reportedly been shot. According to a press release from GPD, there was a disagreement between the two neighbors, Joshua Dale Noggle, 33, of Graham, and Joe Donald Sledge, 67, of Graham.

LCS: Caleb Larson Foundation raises over $20,000 Saturday

The Caleb Larson Foundation raised over $20,000 during their 12th annual Cowboyin’ for the Kids fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 21, at The Harbor on Possum Kingdom Lake. The fundraiser was to raise money and awareness for research into new treatments and cures for childhood cancer.

“We could not have done this without all of our sponsors, those who donated items for the raffle and silent auction, volunteers, and those who sold raffle tickets,” foundation Vice President Cortney Trammell said.

GRMC continues growth financially from last year

Graham Regional Medical Center experienced its second straight month of positive financials as they continue to perform better than last year, but stay in the red for the year.

GRMC CFO Jeff Casbeer gave the financial statement for the month of August, during the Sept. 17 hospital board meeting.

The CFO said the hospital had an operating income of $44,000 compared to a $344,000 net income for the previous month. He said the hospital had a net income of $18,000 which is above budget by almost $91,000.
