Graham Drive-in Theater finds new ownership

Jacksboro’s Becky DuBois settled into the ticket booth around 7:30 p.m. at the Graham Drive-in theater Sunday and watched the dark clouds for lightning.

“We show the movie in the rain. We always get a lot of calls asking,” she said.

If you had told Becky a year ago she would be spending her summer weekends running a drive in theater, she would never have believed it. That was her reaction when her husband, Therrol, told her he wanted to buy it.

Texas Rangers investigating death of Olney woman

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the death of Olney woman Manuela Allen, who was found near Lake Cooper in Archer County Sunday.

DPS Sergeant Dan Buesing said her body was found near Lake Cooper and is being investigated as a homicide. According to the Olney Independent School District website, Allen was employed as a teacher at Olney High School where she taught English and German.

GISD set to receive 1.7 million, approves employee raises

The Graham Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday approved a compensation plan representing a $950,000 financial commitment to employees in the district.

On June 12, Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 3 during the 86th Legislature which along with other issues was related to public school finance and public education. One major aspect of the bill was the creation of a new minimum salary schedule for teachers, counselors and librarians in the Texas school districts.

From one keyboard to another

Corey Pennycuff graduated from Graham High School in 1998 with the intent to pursue music. Now Pennycuff is set to enter his second year as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Computer Science at the University of Notre Dame.

He pursued a music degree at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls and graduated with a bachelor’s in piano performance in 2011. However, while pursuing his degree, he worked via telecommute for a company in Dallas writing code.

PKWSC not implementing annual holiday restrictions

The Possum Kingdom Water Supply Corporation will not implement its annual Fourth of July water restrictions this year.

“The wet weather we’ve had throughout the Spring has allowed us to maintain storage levels as our customers have not been irrigating as much,” the company posted on Facebook. “But, please be aware, these restrictions can/may be put back in place at any time. We always want to encourage our customers to practice good conservation methods regardless of the time of year.”
