County child welfare board raises awareness for area foster children

April is a month of awareness for children throughout the nation, and the Young County Child Welfare Board uses national Go Blue Day and the month of April to raise awareness for a unique cause, area foster children.

The board, which was relaunched in 1996 to serve the needs of foster children, has continued the tradition with its current 13-member board and alternates.

Graham Cars and Stars next weekend

For all motorheads or those with a love of all things old and new, the ninth annual Graham Cars and Stars car show will be on the downtown square next Saturday, April 13 starting at 10 a.m.

Pre-registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. and the show and judging will start at 10 a.m. Judging will end and tallying will begin at noon and awards will be handed out around 2 p.m. Thirty minutes after the awards, cars will cruise to West St. for a burnout.

Physicians of Graham discuss survey results

The physicians of Graham received over 300 responses to their patient satisfaction survey regarding Graham Regional Medical Center, which was released in late 2018. On Tuesday, Doctors Donald Behr, Michael Hay and Pat Martin met with The Graham Leader to discuss the results and changes they hope to make.

“We basically wanted to find out why people weren’t using the hospital and what we can do to improve the community’s healthcare,” Behr said about the survey.

LCS: Grass fire off Hell’s Gate Drive

A 50-acre fire which broke out on the SET Ranch Tuesday afternoon proved difficult to extinguish.

“Luckily the wind wasn’t blowing too bad, but it was really rugged and really, really rough terrain,” Possum Kingdom Volunteer Fire Department Chief Information Officer Craig Hutson said. “There were a lot of places that we just couldn’t even get to because it was so rough. We basically had to sit back and wait for it come to us.”
