Former Young County judge passes away

Former Young County Judge Ken Andrews passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, in Fort Worth. Marking the end of a life of service to the citizens of Graham and Young County.

Current Young County Judge John C. Bullock gave notice of Andrews’ death during the Young County Commissioners’ Court meeting on Monday. Bullock thanked Andrews for his long run of service in the county’s government and asked for people to keep the Andrews family in their thoughts.

GHS graduate raising money for cancer treatment

Lexie Williams, a GHS graduate and 2017 homecoming queen, was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer which affects a part of the immune system called the lymphatic system. Williams has now started a crowdfunding campaign to help her pay for her medical expenses.

“I recently visited the doctor to get some unexplained lumps examined on my neck. The results didn’t come back exactly how I would expect,” Williams said in a Facebook post. “My doctor has now unofficially diagnosed me with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.”

GPD, YCSO make drug busts last week

Last week, the Graham Police Department and Young County Sheriff’s Office took more drugs off the streets thanks to four separate drug busts according to releases from the two departments.

On Sunday, Feb. 10, Young County Sheriff Travis Babcock made a Facebook post congratulating YCSO K-9 Deputy Miranda Wright for making an arrest and seizure of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

LCS: PK Chamber releases Mardi Gras schedule

The Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the 22nd annual Mardi Gras PK Style which will consist of a parade, shrimp fest and many other small events on March 2.

The Mardi Gras Parade will begin at 3 p.m. on FM 2951 near Rockin’ S and will head east onto Park Road 36 until a right turn on La Villa Road where the route will end at the PK Lion’s Club.

LCS: Legal dispute nearly closes The Cliffs Resort

An on going lawsuit nearly led to The Cliffs Resort closing their doors on Friday Feb. 8.

A lawsuit between The Cliffs Property Owners’ Association and Double Diamond Management Corporation, who run the resort, has been in the court system since the suit was filed on July 5, 2017.

On Wednesday, Feb. 6, Double Diamond President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Ward sent out an email to property owners at The Cliffs informing them the resort would close on Feb. 8. due to a court order to transfer all  funds held by Double Diamond to the owners’ association.

LCS: The Ranch completes Air Evac helipad

The Ranch at Possum Kingdom became the third home development community on the east side of the lake to complete a helipad for Air Evac to land in case of medical emergencies.

Mike Patterson, The Ranch board president, said the home development has had a helipad in the community since 1998 but it was very small, not up to code and unlikely to have been used had it been needed.

County ends inmate health agreement with GRMC

The Young County Commissioner’s Court unanimously voted on Monday to give 30 days notice to Young County Family Health Clinic, operated by Graham Regional Medical Center, of their intent to terminate their contract held since 2015 for inmate medical services.

The Commissioner’s also voted to enter into a new agreement with Brazos Family Clinic Nurse Practitioner Joe Clark to take over the services.

Drivers safe after Hwy. 16, 114 vehicle collision

Two drivers were able to walk away after a collision at the crossroads of Hwy. 16 and Hwy. 114 on Feb. 7 just before 4 p.m. The Loving Volunteer Fire Department, Young County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department Public Safety were on the scene.

A female, of Graham, was driving a white 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. She was heading south toward Graham. The second vehicle involved was a  white 4-door 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD. The driver was a male of Runaway Bay. He was heading toward Olney. The vehicle belonged to Basic Energy Services.
