Graham gears up for annual Independence parade

The 17th annual Fourth of July Independence Parade will be held on the Graham downtown square with a ceremony honoring veterans beginning at 9 a.m. and the parade following at 11 a.m. The parade is managed by three non-profit veterans service organizations in Young County: the American Volunteer Reserve, Freedom Care Warrior Project and VFW Post 8567. The parade, which is also supported by the Graham Chamber of Commerce and the Graham Convention and Visitors Bureau, is a chance to honor servicemen locally and nationally.

Summer meal program fills gap with home cooking

The First United Methodist Church’s Our Daily Bread program has for six years provided free meals to anyone who wanted them, and the program moves into its seventh year Wednesday, July 5. The program will run from July 5 through Aug. 11, Monday through Friday, starting at 11:30 a.m. in the FUMC McCree Hall in Graham. The program is open to all community members and the meal includes a free hot lunch and take-home sandwich supper. Transportation can be arranged by calling the church’s office 24 hours in advance at 940-549-0970.

Area gears up for Independence Day celebrations

Organizations in both the Graham and the Mineral Wells areas are gearing up for another fantastic Fourth of July with multiple events that are sure to bring in many visitors. Graham Events 4th at the Field July 1 – 4 p.m. Graham Soccer Fields VFW Post 8567 and the Graham Soccer Association invites the public to celebrate the Fourth of July during the 4th At The Field event on Saturday, July 1, at the Graham Soccer Fields.

Virginia’s House celebrates 25 years of service

Since 1992, Virginia’s House has stood tall in Young County as a beacon for children and their families who suffer from all types of abuse.


On Saturday, June 24, their legacy will be 25 years old.


Virginia’s House is a non-profit family resource center located in Graham which accepts children and their families who suffer from abuse. Their reach extends beyond Young County and into Stephens and Throckmorton counties through their second center, Dr. Goodall’s House, located in Breckenridge.

Area-wide donation day includes Young County nonprofits

A 16-hour day of donations to nonprofits in a 24-county area is the purpose of the Texoma Gives program that will be occurring on Sept. 7, with many nonprofits in Young County already on the list.


The registration deadline for nonprofits to register for the event will be July 1, and to participate the non-profit must meet certain conditions. Nonprofits can sign up for free at texoma gives.org and will be listed online by county.

It’s time to sink or swim for GRT’s ‘The Little Mermaid’

The Graham Regional Theatre closes their 2016-17 year with a summer musical performance of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” which will be showing for two weeks starting Friday, June 23, at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Auditorium.


GRT Director Christian Sanders has been working with a cast of over 40 members for the last five weeks to make sure the performance is ready for its debut Friday.  Preparation for the scheduling of show must be done far in advance though, Sanders said.

State renames stretch of U.S. 380 in honor of WWII hero

The portion of U.S. 380 from Graham eastward to the limits of Bryson in Jack County will be designated as the Henry H. King Memorial Highway after the decision passed in the 85th legislative session.


King served in the Army during World War II, and as a prisoner of war survived the Bataan Death March and the destruction of Nagasaki by atomic bomb.


Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed HB 216 on March 26, to be effective immediately. The bill was first filed by District 68 Rep. Drew Springer on Nov. 14, 2016, and passed both the Texas House and Senate.

City’s June sales tax rebate leaps up almost 5.5 percent


The city of Graham had, for the first time in many months, a rise in sales taxes returned to the city, compared with the same month last year.


Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $640 million in local sales tax allocations for June, 3.6 percent more than in June 2016. These allocations are based on sales made in April by businesses that report tax monthly.

Graham Regional Theater Camp to perform "The Lion King Jr.”

For a second year the Graham Regional Theatre is hosting their Youth Summer Camp which leads up to a performance of “The Lion King Jr.,” Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Auditorium.


“The Lion King Jr.” is two-act musical adapted from the larger musical version of “The Lion King,” that will be performed entirely by the children in the GRT Youth Summer Camp. The play was chosen based on being a well known story, GRT Director Christian Sanders said.
