Graham ISD proposed 2017 tax rate unchanged

The Graham Independent School District’s total tax rate – the sum of the maintenance and operations rate (M&O) plus the interest and sinking rate (I&S) – is unchanged from last year’s rate. Last year’s total tax rate of $1.347 per $100 valuation will remain the same in the coming budget year for GISD. This was decided at the Aug. 10 school board meeting. GISD’s fiscal year starts Sept. 1. A public meeting to discuss the 2017 budget and tax rate was set for 8:15 a.m. Monday, Aug.

Off to a great start

Graham ISD educators were treated to a Back to School Staff Breakfast, held Friday, Aug. 12 in the GHS lunchroom. The event was sponsored by the Graham Chamber of Commerce, and included not only the meal, but raffle prizes and a number of speakers, including Graham United Way 2016-17 Chair Sarah Lundgren, Texas State Rep. Drew Springer, GISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse and Graham Chamber of Commerce Chairman Glenn McGee.

GHS announces laptop distribution schedule

There will be parent information meetings in the GHS Theater from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16 and Thursday, Aug. 18, for parents for GHS freshmen and new students. County sets hearings on property tax rate increase

Young County set the dates for two public hearings on its proposed tax rate increase for the new budget year. The public hearing dates – Aug. 22 and Aug. 18, both at 9:30 a.m. – were set at the Commissioners Court meeting Monday, Aug 8. Both meetings will be at the Young County Courthouse in Judge Bullock’s courtroom. The county’s meeting to establish the effective and rollback rates for the 2017 budget was held Thursday, Aug. 4.
