Voter registration deadline approaching in March election

The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming March primary elections is less than two weeks away. On the March ballot will be contested party runnings for both state and local seats in Young County.

The last day to register to vote in the March election will be Monday, Jan. 31. Texas Secretary of State John Scott reminded voters last week to make sure they are eligible to vote ahead of the deadline.

Young County first responders fight 787-acre wildfire over weekend

Young County firefighters and the Texas A&M Forest Service battled a 787-acre wildfire which started Friday and was not contained until late Sunday between FM 1769 and N Hwy. 16. Along with the Martin fire in Young County, the forest service also responded to 29 other wildfires around the state from Thursday through Sunday.

SEC charges individuals, entities in $122 million oil, gas fraud

The US Security and Exchange Commission announced in December fraud charges against The Heartland Group Ventures, LLC, Heartland Production and Recovery, LLC, six other Heartland-affiliated entities, four Heartland-affiliated individuals and multiple oil and gas operators. The alleged charges are in connection with five fraudulent and unregistered oil and gas offerings totaling over $122 million, including an operator in Graham.

Mosley hired as county elections administrator

Young County will have a new elections administrator next week. After a closed meeting Tuesday at the Young County Courthouse, the Young County Election Commission voted unanimously on the hiring of Kaitlyn Mosley.

Mosley, who will start Monday, replaces Lauren Sullivan who left the position last month. She takes the position after two years as an assistant to Jack County Elections Administrator Lynn Casteel.

Taking the next step: De La Cruz stepping down as CEO of chamber, CVB; chamber seeking applications for position

Six years ago Krisa De La Cruz accepted the position of Graham Chamber of Commerce and Graham Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO, and said as she prepares to leave the position at the end of January the community could not be left in better hands.

De La Cruz submitted her resignation last week which will be effective Monday, Jan. 24. She said the accomplishments and progress the organizations have made would not be possible without the help of the community and the staff at the chamber, CVB and city of Graham.
