A candidate forum for those vying for a seat in the upcoming March primary election will be held Monday at North Central Texas College in Graham. The forum, hosted by the Young County Republicans organization, is scheduled to have local and state candidates make an appearance.
Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning near 1601 Hwy. 16. Graham ISD bus 21 was struck on the right, back end by a black van, causing extensive damage to the van. The crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. this morning.
Six years ago Krisa De La Cruz accepted the position of Graham Chamber of Commerce and Graham Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO, and said as she prepares to leave the position at the end of January the community could not be left in better hands.
De La Cruz submitted her resignation last week which will be effective Monday, Jan. 24. She said the accomplishments and progress the organizations have made would not be possible without the help of the community and the staff at the chamber, CVB and city of Graham.
After a slow reopening process in early 2021, The Rock celebrated a successful end of the year with a New Year’s Eve party Friday night. The party was the culmination of a rebirth of the facility after being closed for a majority of 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
The Young County Junior Livestock Show Creative Art Contest, with five age categories, is opening in less than two weeks at the Young County Arena. All Young County residents are open to submit entries, with participation from area 4-H, FCCLA and FFA students encouraged.
The Graham Wet Committee filed a petition for a local option election with the city of Graham this month and looking to add a measure for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages, including mixed beverages within the city limits to an upcoming election.
Five vehicle burglaries were reported Wednesday morning on Rolling Hills Drive as well as Calaveras, Roanoke and Pearl Streets in Graham. Graham Police Department Chief Brent Bullock wrote Thursday that the department is investigating the incidents within the city.
Renovations are on the way at Graham Regional Medical Center. GRMC CEO Shane Kernell outlined a plan to transform the former Women’s Center into the Surgery Center of Graham during a joint meeting with the GRMC Board of Trustees and the hospital’s doctors Dec. 9. The estimated cost is $3.8 million, which Kernell says will be funded without additional taxes or debt.
The Graham Chamber of Commerce and Graham Economic Development Corporation Holiday Shopping Spree ended last Friday with over $380,000 in local purchases being made at area merchants through the four-week event. The annual event encourages shopping at local merchants and gives the community a chance to win prize drawings in the process each week.
Since 2016, the Graham Chamber of Commerce Hot Chocolicious program has raised around $30,000 for area nonprofit organizations. This year was a record fundraising year for the program, with nine area junior high teams from Graham Junior High School and Open Door Christian School Junior High School raising $8,579.47.
