Winslow accepts plea deal

Michael Winslow, 77, of Olney, who was arrested in March, pleaded guilty Monday, Oct. 4 to the charge of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact.

According to a release from 90th Judicial District Attorney Dee Peavy, 90th Judicial District Judge Stephen Bristow accepted the plea, by finding the evidence sufficient to find him guilty of the charged offense. Bristow then deferred a finding of guilty and placed Winslow on deferred adjudication community supervision for 10 years, with a fine of $10,000.

Duck Derby raises over $40,000 for Rotary Club, area organizations

The Rotary Club of Graham announced the preliminary results from the Duck Derby, with the club raising a total of $41,435 from their event held in September at Fireman’s Park. The annual event reached its goal of 10,000 rubber ducks sold and for the first time since the event began the course had a flowing stream to push the ducks to Salt Creek.

Fort Belknap hosting full-month of events

Fort Belknap will be hosting three events in October starting with their sixth annual Fort Belknap Days, a living history event held for area schools and the public. The fort will additionally be hosting the Fort Belknap Living History Association fundraiser ‘Mild, Mild West’ as well as a new event called Fright at the Fort at the end of October.

Fort Belknap Days is a living history event with 19th century demonstrations where students from area schools can visit and walk among soldiers, witness cannon demonstrations and experience the fort in the 1850s.

GPEF, GISD Hall of Honor honorees to be recognized next Friday

The Graham Public Education Foundation along with Graham ISD will be honoring GISD alumni, staff and community members who have provided meritorious service to the district or their profession this month during the Hall of Honor dedication. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 caused a postponement of the event to the beginning of 2021 and then until Fall 2021.

Duck, Duck, Donate: Rotary releases 10,000 ducks into Fireman’s Park, reaches fundraising goal

The Rotary Club of Graham and their 10,000 rubber ducks made their way to Fireman’s Park Saturday afternoon for the Duck Derby. For the first time in four years since the rubber duck race fundraiser began the course had a flowing stream to push the ducks along, which ended at Salt Creek.

Graham Regional Medical Center board adopts 2022 budget, tax rate

The Graham Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees voted Thursday to adopt a new tax effective tax rate and budget for the fiscal year 2022. Following a unanimous vote, the adopted tax rate for FY 2022 is $0.339400 per $100 valuation which begins Friday, Oct. 1.

The approved rate is the No-New-Revenue Rate as figured by the Young Central Appraisal District. This rate will raise the same amount of property tax revenue for the hospital in both the 2020 and 2021 tax years.
