The Christmas season is almost here and the Young County Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program along with the Lions Club’s Angel Tree project have started their 2021 campaign to help bring the joys of Christmas to underprivileged youth residing in Graham and a message of hope to the less fortunate.
Plug Power, a company which develops hydrogen fuel cell systems, is in the process of establishing a green hydrogen production facility within Young County. The company is working to establish 500 tons of production, which will encompass 13 operating plants, including the plant within Young County.
As a part of the planning for the 150th year celebration for the city of Graham, members of the city and Graham Chamber of Commerce spoke with the Graham City Council and Young County Commissioners Court regarding a project to create a community pavilion on the downtown square. The pavilion is suggested to sit where the old Graham Area Crisis Center and 1921 Young County Jail building currently rests.
A kidnapping and vehicle pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies ended in Jack County Friday after starting in Young County. The incident started in Olney and moved through Young County before ending three miles outside of Jacksboro, according to a release from Olney Police Department.
A local tradition returns to Graham and celebrates its 50th anniversary next Friday and Saturday as the All-American Girl Pageant is at Graham Memorial Auditorium following a one-year absence. The event allows area high school students to showcase their talents to the community and serves as a fundraiser for the Graham High School Thespian Society and GHS Theatre Department for scholarships.
The Graham Public Art Committee is working on designs for murals around town to help brighten and beautify the walls left blank around the city. A collection of local artists and other community members make up the committee which chooses the location, designs and more associated with the murals.
The third annual Pigskin Weekend cornhole tournament, which brings teams of competitors from around the state, will change from its traditional location on the downtown square to the Young County Arena this year. This year marks the first year the event will change from being run by the Graham Convention and Visitors Bureau.
A vehicle pursuit Friday started in Graham and ended in Archer County with four law enforcement agencies involved in the arrest.
At around 11:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, Graham Police Officer Riley Acosta saw a white Nissan Altima traveling at high speeds at the intersection of Pine Tree Road and Walmart Drive, according to a release by GPD. The vehicle, later identified as being driven by Antonio Javier Jimenez, 19, of Graham, continued to travel west on Pine Tree Road and north onto S. Hwy. 16. Jimenez turned the vehicle north and was driving in the middle of the roadway.
The Graham Public Education Foundation and Graham ISD honored GISD alumni, staff and community members who have provided meritorious service to the district or their profession at the Hall of Honor dedication Friday at Graham High School. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 caused a postponement of the event to the beginning of 2021 and then until Fall 2021.
The Graham Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary raised over $48,000 for GRMC last month at its annual celebrity auction and golf tournament. GRMC Board of Trustees member and tournament organizer Sylvia Overton made the announcement this week in a release.
