GRMC Health Fair returns to Young County Arena

The 35th annual Graham Community Health and Wellness Fair returns to the Young County Arena this month. Graham Regional Medical Center will host the free event from 6-10 a.m. Saturday, July 24.

The health fair allows community members an opportunity to receive free health screenings. Services include free blood screening, ear and eye screenings, first aid training and blood pressure checks. In 2019, the fair started offering immunizations, including shingles and vaccinations required for students in school.

Reinvestment zone public hearing postponed until August

The public hearing for a new reinvestment zone and amended tax abatement agreement with Young Wind LLC was postponed by the Young County Commissioners Court this week. The delay, at the request of Young Wind LLC, is to give the company more time to prepare a new application as more property owners have requested to take part in the proposed wind farm in Young County.

Graham City Council tables purchase proposal for Lake Eddleman RV park

A proposal from RKJ Adventures, LLC, to purchase Lake Eddleman RV park was postponed by the Graham City Council last Thursday due to community concerns raised during the meeting regarding the project. The project was initially tabled to the meeting last Thursday after being reviewed by a committee established after the June 10 council meeting.

Law adds auditable paper voting system requirement in state

Senate Bill 598 was signed into law two weeks ago and will require voting machines in the state to have an auditable paper voting system, including the systems available for voting in Young County.

SB 598 was approved during the 87th Legislative Session following approval from the Texas Senate in April and Texas House of Representatives in May. The bill was sent to the office of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott June 1, and was signed into law June 14.

Man dies in YCSO deputy-involved shooting

A Graham man died Sunday night after a shooting incident involving a Young County Sheriff's deputy.

Deputies arrived to the scene on Red Top Road at 8:04 p.m., Sunday, June 27 for a welfare check according to the Young County blotter. According to a release from DPS Sgt. Dan Buesing, the deputy was advised that the subject, Stephen Winder, 39, was suicidal and had a gun on the property.

Our Daily Bread: Free summer meals program returns in July

First United Methodist Church will have their free hot lunch and sandwich supper program, Our Daily Bread, return in July. Unlike last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meal program will be held inside and will not be offering a curbside pickup or delivery option.

The program is welcome to all in the community and will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the FUMC McCree Hall from Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, Aug. 13. The event was started 10 years ago when FUMC member Bronwen Choate was in her final teaching year at Graham ISD.

KGB concludes online survey regarding Standpipe water tower

Keep Graham Beautiful’s online survey regarding the water tank on top of Standpipe Mountain in Graham came to close with over 1,300 responses submitted. The non-operational water tank is currently atop the hill for aesthetic purposes, but due to safety concerns the organization was gauging interest in the tank being repaired, replaced or removed from its current location.
