Texoma Gives online fundraising opportunity seeking nonprofits

The 16-hour online giving event Texoma Gives, which in previous years has had participation from Young County organizations, is looking for nonprofits to join the sixth annual program by their cutoff at the end of the month. Organizations in a 24-county area of north Texas and southern Oklahoma are eligible to be a part of the program.

Lippert awaiting trial on capital murder charge

Brett Aaron Lippert, the suspect charged with capital murder in the death of Justin Williams, appeared in court Tuesday for an update as his case awaits trial. Lippert, 37, of Fredricksburg, was indicted on March 29 for the murder of Williams, 49, of Graham, who was found dead in his home Sunday, Feb. 28.

During the pre-trial hearing,  90th Judicial District Judge Stephen Bristow said the defense had filed 33 motions, for which the state needed to file responses.

City provides water project updates

The Graham City Council spoke to city department heads Thursday during their first budget meeting and received updates regarding future water projects around the city. The city is planning major water and wastewater projects which are an alternate water line to the city, the replacement of water lines in the older portion of the city and the replacement of the Tackitt lift station.

Council discusses upcoming, ongoing department projects

The city of Graham discussed their upcoming and ongoing projects Thursday during their first 2021-2022 budget meeting. The city department projects will have $4.8 million in grant funding, with $1.2 million in earmarked funding and approximately $250,674 used from city tax dollars.

City Manager Brandon Anderson presented the list of projects Thursday to the council which were upcoming and ongoing with their associated costs and funding from each city department.

Rotary Club of Graham donates $20,000 for Crisis Center repavement project

The Rotary Club of Graham implemented their President’s Project two years ago with then club president Matt Hughes, where they would dedicate $10,000 each year to make an impact within the community. The club chose the Graham Area Crisis Center and recently made a donation of $20,000 to cover the cost of their parking lot repavement.

GRMC Health Fair returns to Young County Arena

The 35th annual Graham Community Health and Wellness Fair returns to the Young County Arena this month. Graham Regional Medical Center will host the free event from 6-10 a.m. Saturday, July 24.

The health fair allows community members an opportunity to receive free health screenings. Services include free blood screening, ear and eye screenings, first aid training and blood pressure checks. In 2019, the fair started offering immunizations, including shingles and vaccinations required for students in school.

Reinvestment zone public hearing postponed until August

The public hearing for a new reinvestment zone and amended tax abatement agreement with Young Wind LLC was postponed by the Young County Commissioners Court this week. The delay, at the request of Young Wind LLC, is to give the company more time to prepare a new application as more property owners have requested to take part in the proposed wind farm in Young County.
