ODCS raises over $70,000 through school fundraiser

In February, Open Door Christian School kicked off a fundraising campaign to provide 10,000 meals to families in Haiti while educating students about the country. The school has surpassed their increased goal and raised over $74,000.

This is the first time ODCS has participated in the Feed the Need fundraising program. Open Door Christian School Principal/Administrator Brandi Menard said she was amazed at the response by the community in giving to the fundraiser.

Gov. Abbott lifts mask mandate, opens state to 100% capacity

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order Tuesday lifting the mask mandate in the state of Texas as well increasing the max capacity of all businesses and facilities to 100% of their operating capacity. The order will go into effect throughout the state Wednesday, March 10.

Gov. Abbott made the announcement at Montelongo’s Mexican Restaurant in Lubbock Tuesday, March 2, regarding the lifting of the mask mandate and discussed the advancements the state has made which led to his executive order.

DSHS distributes vaccines for twelfth week to providers

The Texas Department of State Health Services tasked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ship 676,280 first doses of COVID-19 vaccines to 522 providers during the twelfth  week of COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Aside from large vaccine hubs, additional vaccines are still being distributed to smaller providers in other parts of the state including Young County for a fourth week in a row.

UPDATE: Suspect on the run after late-night murder in Graham

Update - 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28: The Graham Police Department,Texas Rangers,Young County District Attorney’s Office and Wichita Falls Crime Stoppers unit have made a positive identification on the capital murder suspect. A felony warrant was issued for the arrest of Brett Aaron Lippert, 37, of Fredericksburg, TX, for capital murder. Lippert is suspected of killing Justin Bartley Williams, 49, of Graham at the 700 block of Pecan St. this morning. The whereabouts of Lippert are unknown at this time. Additional charges are expected to come in the following days, according to GPD.

Power infrastructure winterization made a legislative priority by Governor

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott gave an update Wednesday regarding the response to the severe weather conditions two weeks ago and the power outages caused by that weather. Among other concerns, Gov. Abbott said he has made it a legislative priority to mandate and fund the winterization of the state’s power infrastructure.

Gov. Abbott spoke Wednesday from the State Emergency Operations Center in Austin and said many in the state were upset by the state’s response and he said those residents deserve answers for why the system failed when they needed essential services.
