Bennie Edward Standridge, Jr.

Bennie Edward Standridge, Jr. passed away on Jan. 23, 2019 at his home in Decatur, TX.

He was born on Aug. 6, 1926 in Jefferson County, Alabama to Bennie Edward Standridge, Sr and Margaret Redd Standridge. Ed volunteered for the US Navy at age 17 where he served on the USS Nevada during the Iwo Jima invasion. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Alabama. After marrying his girlfriend, Bobbie Bonham on Nov. 27, 1948 they spent time at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. In 1953, they moved to Texas to start their family and were married 37 years before her passing in 1986. Ed was employed as a senior design engineer with General Dynamics and Bell Helicopter for 45 years. He was a Deacon at First Baptist in Joshua, enjoyed horses, water skiing, reading and outdoor activities. On June 18, 1989, Ed married Eileen Owens.

They have enjoyed traveling, volunteering in the community and both caring for and celebrating with their grandchildren for the last 29 years. Ed enjoyed being an active member of several Masonic Lodges in Tarrant, Wise and Young Counties for over 60 years and served as a District Deputy Grand Master in District 106. He also enjoyed participating in the American Volunteer Reserve (AVR). He was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Dorothy Ruth, brothers William and Robert Standridge and wife, Bobbie.

He is survived by his wife Eileen Owens Standridge of Decatur, daughter Connie Parks and husband Steve of Burleson, son Bennie Edward Standridge III of Glen Rose, step-daughter Sonya Holloway and husband Bobby of Decatur, sister Margaret Ann Porter of Lipscomb, Ala., grandchildren Laurie Parks of Allen, Steve Parks, Jr. and wife Rebecca of Allen, Leah Hollenbeck and husband Derek of Burleson, Lindsey Hart and husband Josh of Fort Worth, and Landree and Robert Holloway of Decatur, and great grandchildren Michael Parks of Denton, Hudson and Ashland Parks of Allen, Abbie Thumudo of Burleson, and Natalie, Adrianna and Nolan Hart of Fort Worth.
