Burnette Mansfield Pitts, 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 in Graham. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in the Newcastle Cemetery with C.J. Frazier, Youth Pastor of First Baptist Church in Olney, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney. Burnette was born July 28, 1923 in Folsom, La., to the late Lonit Mansfield and Lozane (Ard) Mansfield. She married Lawrence Pitts on Nov. 13, 1944 in Graham. She retired from the Newcastle ISD in 1984, serving as a faithful and dedicated worker in the school cafeteria for 22 years. Burnette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence on Feb. 3, 1996, four brothers and one sister. Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Preston and Argelia Pitts of Houston, and Edward and Sherry Pitts of China Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Martha Pitts Freudensprung and Bobby of Newcastle; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Melton and Jenny Mansfield of Algiers, La. and Harvey and Doris Mansfield of Mandeville, La.; four grandchildren, Jeffery Pitts and wife Kristin of Fulshear, Dusty Pitts of China Spring, Swain Gonzalez and husband Mario of Houston and Sharlee Shahshahani of Houston; five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
