Douglas Glenn Pendergras Sr.

Douglas Glenn Pendergras Sr. went to be with the Lord on Jan. 29, 2018 in Austin, at the age of 84. Doug was born in Newcastle on Jan. 28, 1934. He proudly served his country in the Navy and was a Korean War veteran. He attended Texas Christian University and worked in the nursing home business for 55 years and had many entrepreneurial endeavors including airlines, oil and music. Doug was a pioneer in the nursing home business, served as president of American Health Care Association and helped create the Texas Health Care Association. He truly loved taking care of the aged and disabled. Doug had a voracious love of life. He loved traveling, playing golf with friends and his Texas Longhorns football. Doug loved his wife of 18 years, Sally, his children, grandchildren and friends dearly. Doug touched many lives and was loved by all. We are all blessed to have had him with us for as long as the Lord let us. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sally and his children, Sharon (Ted), Kirk, Barbara (Alice), David (Carmen), Julie, Doug, Don (Genna); stepchildren, Bill (Ariana) and David (Anne); and grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott), Michael (Kelly), Ronnie, Sarah, Samantha, Trey, Melanie, Garett, Max, Livia, Julian, Hunter, Ian, Abby, Noah, Max, Morgan and Jackson; six great-grandchildren and by his sister, Janice (Gene) Mays. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jefferson Pendergrass Sr. and Susie Pearl Pendergrass; sisters, Betty Jo Pendergrass, Vaudine Proffitt and Elouise McDonnell; and brother, T.J. Pendergrass Jr. A visitation will be held Feb. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. in Austin,. Doug’s celebrations of life will be held at the Austin Oaks Church, 4220 Monterey Oaks Blvd. in Austin, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3. A reception will follow at the Barton Creek Resort and Spa, 8212 Barton Club Dr., Austin.
