E. C. “Cush” Cusenbary

E. C. “Cush” Cusenbary, 91, died Friday, June 10, 2016, in Wichita Falls, Texas.


Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016, in the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, Texas. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Bryson, Texas. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 14, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.


E.C. was born on Sept. 10, 1924, in Graham, Texas, to Daniel David and Ida Faye (Parsons) Cusenbary. He married Hazel Marie King on Jan. 21, 1950, in Graham, Texas. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Graham.


He served his country proudly as a member of the “Greatest Generation” as a B-25 pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII, and then continued on as a reservist. After his time in the military, work for him began in the oil patch starting a career path that spanned 52 years. His employers included Paine Drilling Company, Burk Royalty Oil Company, Ausanka Oil, and in later years he became an independent consultant and managing partner of Bohner Oil Company.


E.C. was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dan Cusenbary, Jr.; sisters, Pat Gracey and Catherine Cusenbary; granddaughter, Stephanie Gerber; and great-granddaughter, Presley Janae Beach.


He is survived by his wife, Hazel; sons, Wade Cusenbary of San Antonio, Texas, Gary Cusenbary of Graham, Texas, and Melton Cusenbary and wife, Mindy, of Wichita Falls, Texas; daughters Celeste Gerber and husband Chuck, of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Cathy Haigood, and husband Lyndell, of Wichita Falls, Texas; and sister Estelle Dowdle of Lubbock, Texas. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.


The family would like to thank the caregivers of Wichita Home Health, and Hospice of Wichita Falls for their love and compassion while caring for him during his final year. To them we are forever grateful.


In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas, 76310.
