Glyn Gilliam

Glyn Gilliam, 89, passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2020 at his home in Graham. The family will be at Morrison Funeral Home Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. to greet friends. A funeral will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Union Cemetery in Freestone County. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Glyn was born Jan. 28, 1931 in Donie, to the late Ida Belle (Sandifer) Gilliam and Robert Stanley Gilliam. He graduated from Teague High School and then received a Bachelors in Agricultural Education from Sam Houston State University and then a Masters in Education from Sam Houston State University. He graduated from School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University. Glyn served four years in the United States Air Force. He began his career as a field representative for the Mexia Production Credit Association. Glyn started in the banking business in 1958 with the Marlin National Bank, moved to Eastland National Bank in 1961 and in 1964 to First State Bank in Ranger. Glyn married Marty Harris, Aug. 2, 1958 in Teague. He moved to Graham in 1972 from Ranger and became President of Graham National Bank. Glyn was actively involved in the Graham Lions Club, Industrial Foundation, Chamber of Commerce, Young County Livestock Association, and an active member of First United Methodist Church. Glyn retired from GNB in 1989 and associated with First National Bank and later retired from there.

Survivors include; wife, Marty Gilliam of Graham; daughter, Jill Atwood and husband Robert of Abilene; son, Russell Gilliam of Cleburne; four grandchildren, Will Atwood, Ross Atwood and wife ShayeAnne, Abby Atwood Blakely and husband Bryan and Matthew Gilliam; four great grandchildren, Maddie Claire Blakely, Hudson, Knox, and Krew Atwood; sister, Bobbie Huffman of Austin; several nieces and nephews also survive.
