Funeral service for Jimmie Olda Sims, 92, will be held Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Woodville United Methodist Church with Rev. Admanda Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville. Visitation will be held Friday at the Woodville United Methodist Church from noon until the time of the service. Sims passed away Oct. 9, 2016 at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Born Sept. 1, 1924 on New York Hill in Thurber, he attended schools in Thurber, Gordon, Strawn, Fort Worth, Palo Pinto, Odessa and Graham. He graduated from Pasadena High School, Pasadena, Texas in 1942. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in theArmy and served from 1942-45 as a private first class during World War II. He was a member of the 331st Medical Group, played trumpet in the Army Band and was the company bugler while serving in the European Theater. Sims was hired by Humble/Exxon in Crawley, Louis. in 1946 and worked for the company for 40 years. He married Margaret Louise Irvine on Aug. 4, 1952. He worked at Clifton by Sea, Wink, Wickett, Anahuac, Liberty, League City, Cedar Point, Baytown and Gladewater. After retiring in 1987, he moved to Colmesneil. He belonged to the American Legion Post #75 in Mineral Wells. He is survived by his son, Glenn Sims of Irving; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bob Selph of Coppell; daughter and son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Rita Sims and Dr. Andrew Williams of Kosse; granddaughter and husband, Tabitha and Harrison South of Dallas; granddaughter, Morgan Selph; grandson, Brandon Selph; and granddaughter, Laura Williams-Sims of Kosse; numerous nieces, nephew and friends. He was preceded in death by Margaret, his wife of nearly 50 years. Memorials may be made to Woodville United Methodist Church, 508 W. Bluff St., Woodville, TX 75979.
